CASA PALAGIONE

Heritage and terroir in Chianti Classico

Casa Palagione required a visual identity that honors centuries of Tuscan heritage while feeling genuinely modern. The challenge was to express authentic luxury without pretense, and reverence for the land without falling into rustic cliché.

Visual identity

The primary logo draws from a fireplace fresco depicting a tree with a red‑headed bunting  (Emberiza bruniceps). This image captures the estate’s defining harmony between cultivation and wilderness, where ancient olive trees and Sangiovese vineyards coexist with wild boar and migratory birds.

A simplified trefoil, or club symbol, preserves the tree’s essence for smaller applications. It becomes a versatile secondary mark that communicates continuity and balance.

Playing card motifs

Historic suit symbols appear throughout the system, each representing a facet of the estate’s legacy. The spade honors Tuscan nobility and the Medici’s agricultural innovations that shaped Chianti viticulture. The club symbolizes the stewards who cultivated these slopes with dignity and care. The heart stands for emotional connection to place.

These motifs anchor the identity in the region’s medieval contests and its 1716 protected designation, one of the earliest examples of geographical origin recognized in law.

Typography

Founders Grotesk, by Kris Sowersby, blends 19th‑ and 20th‑century refinement with utilitarian warmth. Caslon Ionic, by William Caslon IV, reflects resilience and clarity, originally designed for readability in demanding print conditions.

Together the typefaces embody the estate’s philosophy: bridging ancient practice with modern precision, and honoring tradition while speaking in a contemporary voice.

Color palette

Colors rise directly from the landscape and its art. Cool pinks, soft blues, and pale greens echo Pontormo. Golden accents recall Duccio’s altarpieces. Vivid reds and corals draw from the poppies that bloom across the estate each spring.

Art direction

Photography centers on natural light—morning mists, midday brightness, and the golden glow that defines the Tuscan afternoon. Every image conveys the estate’s rhythm and atmosphere without staging or artifice.

Terroir

Casa Palagione rests on the southwest slopes of Castellina in Chianti, where orientation and altitude create an ideal microclimate for wine and olive cultivation. Galestro soil, a schist‑rich formation shaped over millions of years, drives the vines deep and imparts mineral complexity to the Sangiovese grapes. Olive oil produced from the estate’s ancient trees remains exclusive to guests, reinforcing its spirit of stewardship.

Brand philosophy

The identity unites Tuscan craftsmanship, sustainability, and cultural continuity within a single visual language. By balancing heritage with restraint, Casa Palagione affirms a philosophy grounded in biodiversity, enduring excellence, and respect for both landscape and community.
